Welcome to the original and most complete Smoky Mountain Winterfest site! There's a new chill in the air, which means... you've got it, ski season is here and lots of fun Winterfest activities and events have been planned for you from November 2007 through February 28, 2008.
The First Snow of the Season fell at Newfound Gap in mid-October, letting us know we're in for a terrific season for skiing and enjoyment of the crisp mountain air.
Winter is an excellent time for taking nature walks in the Smoky Mountains. You will find a beautiful trail behind Sugarlands Visitor Center just inside the National Park on the Gatlinburg side. A Smoky Mountain Christmas is a Christmas to remember. Magnificent parades, craft shows, sleighrides, trolley tours, Christmas on Ice at Ober Gatlinburg, and many other events make this holiday season one to remember for a lifetime. Dollywood's 17th annual "Smoky Mountain Christmas" is for children of all ages. One of the most popular events of Winterfest is the Wilderness Wildlife Week of Nature in January which features lectures on local flora, fauna, and wildlife, hikes ranging from short and easy strolls to overnight treks, tips on photography, and bird watching. Each event is presented by more than 85 experts in their respective fields. A FREE event.
